Guest guest
Hi Gill, here is a translation of the Latin words. The candle is speaking: "I am alive! And my soul, trembling, consumes itself within me." Guest guest
Hi Gill and Jan -- Thanks for the quote and the translation! Appropriate indeed - very striking! Escher's had a way of presenting a (usually visual) perspective that throws open all possible perspectives to "infinity," often with humor as well as meticulousness. This quote fits with the visuals, and his visuals perhaps, need less translation, although certainly also a "language."
