Question:

"Can we at least have a glimpse of the real self everyday?"

Sri Ramana:

"Between sleep and waking there is a momentary twilight. The waking

consciousness begins with the 'I' -thought. Just before the upsurge

of the 'I'-thought there is a split second of undifferentiated pure

consciousness. First unconsciousness, then the light of pure

consciousness, then the 'I'-thought with which world-consciousness

floods in. This is the order. The middle state is self awareness. We

can sense it if we are sufficiently alert and watchful."

(Ramana Maharshi Anwers 100 Questions, question 43)

Dear Gabriele,

I have read and reread this particular quote again and again. I have

never seen anyone say this so perfectly clear. I have often wondered

how to explain the occasional glimpses that occur when waking. I have

ususally called it "falling into God," for lack of a better way to

describe it. Sri Bhagavan says it so clearly, so understandable to me

now. Strange and wonderful that when reading something, even one line

of a poem or essay, that clear view of "getting it" seems to happen

suddenly. Of course! Suddenly now. I appreciate the Sri Ramana

postings very much.

Love,

Mazie
