Guest guest
Dear Gloria, your hospitality toward the animal kingdom, even though not be completely intentional, will be to your credit on the day of reckoning, I am sure... :-) Yes, the moles in my garden do teach me patience and longsuffering, cardinal virtues no doubt... :-) I could easily poison them, but in the spirit of ahimsa I don't. I very much agree that gardening can be spiritually rewarding as well as humbling at the same time. Warmly, Michael -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: Gloria Lee [glee] Gesendet: Tuesday, January 22, 2002 06:04 An: Betreff: Re: Hello Everyone! snip Anyway, I liked your suggested subject of sadhana even better. Is this the official topic now? Here in Central Europe the only groundhogs (or marmots) I am aware of live in the Alps. They are exceedingly shy and, except for the holes they dig, very lovable little critters. It must be nice to have them living so close to your doorstep. If they know their calendar they should all be in hibernation now. ----- NICE??? Oh sure, they eat all the fruit they can get their paws on in our tiny new orchard. But they do it shyly at night. The deer prefer the leaves, that is, when they aren't stripping the bark off rubbing their antlers on them. Still the racoons look real lovable when they come right up to the porch door to eat the cat food. So far, the only success has been finding a way to keep the squirrels from eating the birdseed. That and the tomatoes were good. Hey, maybe we could write about gardening as a sadhana? Being outsmarted by a mole must do wonders for your humility, right? Mike, there is nothing official about anything I suggest here. It's more like begging. I'd be happy for anyone to write about anything. Love, Gloria ----------------- And as you may know from biology, the preferred habitat of the European mole population is, of course, my garden. Hey, if you can sum up detachment, happiness, or reality in a paragraph - please do! Perhaps narrowing the focus a bit to some aspect of one of these might make it more manageable. What about a focus on sadhana, with each writing briefly of just one spiritual practice they have found useful? That would offer some practical ideas to the readers. Moles are not so bad, you should see the size of the holes the groundhogs dig around my woods. Love, Gloria - MikeSuesserott Monday, January 21, 2002 1:19 PM Hello Everyone! Dear Harshaji, a warm "welcome back!" from this humble sangha member also. As regards a contribution to the magazine, I would second Gloria's suggestion of focusing on a given topic, be it "Happiness" or "Detachment" or "What is Reality?" or "The Poetry of Mirabai" or whatever. It should be a topic that most of us feel they are reasonably conversant with; therefore, I would advise against "The Mating Habits of the Mole" which I understand you are currently considering. Take care, :-) Michael /join All paths go somewhere. No path goes nowhere. Guest guest
Dear Gabriele, I am replying to your post of 20th Jan. I am late because I am new to this list and while browsing through the archives found this post of yours. I want to say something. A few years back when I read Mahatma Gandhi's autobiography 'My Experiments with Truth', I had a certain strange feeling which, on further introspection, I traced to my conviction that what I was reading was the absolute truth. I want you to know that I get the same feeling when I read your mails. I am sure with Ramana's grace you will reach the bottom of that silence.
