Raw Food - A True Story

Dear all,

the following is a true story. I think I should preface this by saying that

my only motive in telling it is my wish to share an inspiring incident

connected with the vibrant qualities of raw food. There is no hidden agenda;

I know many wonderful and lovable meat eaters. :-)

This story is about two very good friends of mine, Helmut and his wife

Marlies, both from Frankfurt. About three years ago Helmut was diagnosed

with intestinal obstruction; he had to undergo surgery in which a portion of

the colon was removed. For a while he seemed to improve, but soon he

developed intestinal spasms accompanied by excruciating pains every five or

ten minutes. Doctors administered different drugs and medicines which didn't

help. Finally they decided on an emergency operation; they cut him open

again and removed another part of the bowels. In addition, Helmut now

couldn't eliminate the normal way any more; he had an opening in the belly

with a pipe leading out from there through which he could evacuate. I

believe doctors call it anus praeter.

Again Helmut did not improve. He was very weak now, still undergoing these

very painful spasms every few minutes. Doctors were absolutely clueless;

they said they had done everything within their power. Helmut decided that

since they couldn't do anything for him in the hospital, he might as well go

home, and so he was brought home by ambulance.

The next day I got a call from Marlies (his wife). She told me the whole

story and asked me to visit them; in tears she told me that Helmut's life

seemed to be ebbing away. It was shocking to see Helmut. His skin color was

ashen, and he looked like a man dying. You could talk to him for a only few

minutes, then a violent spasm lasting about two or three minutes contracted

his body, during which time he groaned with pain. Normally a strong man, he

now looked like a skeleton with a bloated belly.

Having asked Marlies for a little table to be put near Helmut's bed, I

arranged there a number of items I had brought with me. These were:

- A small grain mill

- Wheat (whole grains)

- Oats (whole grains)

- Skim milk

- Flax seed (also called linseed)

- Oat bran

- Apples

- Pears

- Bananas

- Honey

Like a traveling salesman I arranged all these commodities before Helmut and

asked him if he would be willing to try an experiment. I said I would

prepare a cereal for him which in my opinion might help him. Now Helmut had

been a heavy meat eater all his life, and had never thought much of my "food

tick", but under the circumstances he was desperate enough to give it a try.

So I prepared the cereal from the above ingredients, and he ate one bowl of

it. I also showed Marlies (another hearty meat eater!) how to prepare it. As

it had become late, I then said good-bye to them and drove home. It is a

little more than an hour's drive from Frankfurt to the place where I live.

As soon as I was home the phone rang; it was Marlies informing me that soon

after I had left, Helmut's spasms had stopped completely and that he had had

the first pain-free evacuation in weeks.

Well, Helmut had one such cereal every day for the next few weeks, and he

made a total recovery. The spasms were gone completely; doctors shook their

heads gravely and spoke of spontaneous remission. The opening in Helmut's

belly could be operated back, too. Today he looks the picture of health and

has become as stout and strong as ever. The power of natural food!

Love,

Michael
