Slow Dawning

Somewhere a bird wakes up startled,

and ruffles the dawn with bright scolding music.

Hearts stir sleepily. Feel the warmth

of soul nesting love within them and stretch the sky.

There are robins pouncing like tigers

in the meadows of my awareness.

There are hedgehogs in the hairline of my thoughts.

Something I had forgotten,

something half remembered.

Ah yes. Flashed lightening of insight.

I recall you to me

like a warm eider-downed vision.

The way we have held each other

like sleeping children through the night.

Your soft breath in my heart.

The purr of your flesh in mine.

The warm glowing of this Love entwined,

as you have made a dormitory for lovers

in my curled dreams.

Now I can relax into this day,

as dew bright tears upon leaf and stem.

Be fall fastened upon this moment,

and feel the hip swaying charm of you

as my constant presence.

Now I can assume the position of the Buddha

and smile enigmatically

as the wind lifts up the light

and brings a new creation into being.

Love draws the curtains of this moment.

Your skirts are swinging the pulse,

tickling the tendons of this reverence,

as I lower myself into this bathing pool

of peace that has become my life in you.

Godness in God arisen. God not forsaken in sleep,

but carried in me as your endless love letter.

I open you out and spread this poem

as plum jam on my breakfast repast.

I am the fast of this world

and feasting, wed these words to you at last.

love

eric
