Guest guest
Love.... In my opinion, the most used word in the English language. The most abused word, the most confused word, the most used word.!. The most often written about, the most pooh-poohed about. The most sung about, wrung about, and hung about. What drives us to use this word? What drives us to seek this, speak this word. Love, without it.... we cry, we sigh, we die. We become resigned and unresponsive to life. Love, with it.... are inspired, desired, our entire being breathes the word love. But do any of us really know what it means. There are 21 entries on Love in the Webster's Dictionary. And the main entry states this: Main Entry: 1love Pronunciation: 'l&vFunction: nounEtymology: Middle English, from Old English lufu; akin to Old High German luba love, Old English lEof dear, Latin lubEre, libEre to pleasebefore 12th century1 a (1) : strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties <maternal love for a child> (2) : attraction based on sexual desire : affection and tenderness felt by lovers (3) : affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests <love for his old schoolmates> b : an assurance of love <give her my love>2 : warm attachment, enthusiasm, or devotion <love of the sea>3 a : the object of attachment, devotion, or admiration <baseball was his first love> b (1) : a beloved person : DARLING -- often used as a term of endearment (2) British -- used as an informal term of address4 a : unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another: as (1) : the fatherly concern of God for humankind (2) : brotherly concern for others b : a person's adoration of God5 : a god or personification of love6 : an amorous episode : LOVE AFFAIR7 : the sexual embrace : COPULATION8 : a score of zero (as in tennis)9 capitalized, Christian Science : GOD- at love : holding one's opponent scoreless in tennis- in love : inspired by affection But does that explain to us what love is? Love is not found in a book, or in words, or in concepts. It is not found in a church, or Wal mart, or the local bar. So where can one go to find love? Some say, love is found within. But is love discovered within, without having an outward example of what it should feel like? Dead to love. What about those that have forgotten what love is, and seek it in many forms of erotism. Confusing sexual pleasure as a sign of love. Dont ask me what love is, my words will only fall short of explaining. I just know its something. And that something does not inspire pain, rejection, expectations, judgements, or separation {as well as a whole host of other words} ~ @`---,----With Delight----,---`@ ~ Lynettewww.geocities.com/poetic_delight/ Attachment: (image/gif) audio.gif [not stored]
