Guest guest
Hello Everyone. Back from spring vacation. Will be busy for a few days and may take a while to catch up on the e-mail. In case I don't catch up, feel free to say it one more time. Now to my diet gurus Janji and Davidji. What is the ideal BMI (Body Mass Index)? Can one be too skinny and lose bone mass? Hope you are all well. Love to all Harsha
Guest guest
Hi Harsha, Instead of BMI i use performance clues, for instance if dogs like running along with me at the beach... Without severe fasting it is difficult to decrease the body's fat amount below 5 % and this number is skinny already, more for a professional marathon runner. The idea 'behind' these remarks, even at a proper BMI, that still isn't a guarantee for good health. Daily exercise otoh will give feedback like perspiration, its smell, the breathing rate, heart beat, its recovery rate etc... Recently is was found, heart beat recovery rate (to bpm at rest) is a reliable indicator for the likelihood of heart attack! And once the body knows what is 'good' for it, it issues a warning when treated improperly... Akin to the situation, once the Self is known, that is reflected in writing and recognized. The body knows very well what's good for it, but in (too) many cases still has to recognize that. Love, Jan On 3/18/02 at 8:18 AM Harsha wrote: ºHello Everyone. Guest guest
Hi Jan, I recently came across a confirming report re: exercise. It was the single most important indicator for health. being sedentary is worse than any other factor known to influence health. Being overweight AND active, is better than being slender and sedentary. Even smoking and being active is still better than a nonsmoker being sedentary. Yep, body was designed for moving around. And again you are right about the imortant feedback this provides. Severe dieting, like anorexia and starvation will adversely impact all body systems, not just bone mass. Guest guest
Hi Glo, There's even more to exercise: a healthy body hardly has a sense of bodyness. The idea "i am not the body" then comes natural and is one of the reasons for "enlightenment" once having been "normal" for natives. Apart from that, there are many walking samadhis, each confirming that regarding samadhi, activity isn't a hindrance. What adds to the experience is that due to the pleasant sense of tiredness following exercise, the mind spontaneously quiets down, the natural condition for meditation. The ancient Greeks must have known this too: "A healthy mind in a healthy body" is a great summary. It is easy to know the Self, but actually realizing (not mere intellectual understanding) the mind-body is the Self too has become a forgotten "art of life".
