Ammachi

Dear Friends:

I have not had the time to follow the Mazie and Amma

thread carefully but wanted to mention the following.

Ammachi and her devotees hold an annual retreat at the

college where I teach every summer.

The retreats started a year or two after I came to

this college in my role as a faculty member.

Usually, when the group is here, I try to drop by for

the vegetarian food, which is quite good and prepared

lovingly by the devotees.

In the evening, they pass out numbers to people and

people get on their knees in line for a chance to hug

Ammachi.

Last year, having shown up a bit too early for dinner,

I saw and participated in the pre-dinner Bhajans and

the Puja. I also received a very "high" number which

meant that I could be one of the first ones on my

knees to have a chance to hug Ammachi before it got

too late in the evening.

Some of Ammahchis devotees with whom I had sat during

the Bhajan had dinner with me. They were both

counselors and psychologists from Canada. We had a

nice dinner conversation and a lot of laughs as well.

One of the psychologists had gotten a "low" number

for hugging Ammachi which meant that she would have

had to wait late into the night for her chance.

I promptly gave her my "high" number and she was very

surprised but very grateful.

After dinner, I left the long lines of people on their

knees crawling slowly towards Ammachi and went home

and had a pleasant sleep. It was a nice evening out. I

may have written about it last year.
