Guest guest
In August 1946, on one of my visits, I prostrated to Bhagavan just as he was returning to the ashram after his morning stroll. Sri Bhagavan, who was weak in his knees due to rheumatism, staggered slightly because he was not expecting my interception. He steadied himself with some effort, halted and then with an annoyed expression told me, 'What a nuisance! People will not give up their genuflections before me at all odd times and places!" I felt very sorry and promptly begged his forgiveness. Immediately he cooled down and with the glow of a benevolent smile adorning his face, he asked, "What do you want?" I picked up courage and replied, "By your grace, Bhagavan, I have the experience of the Self. Please let me know how all my sleeping time could be a continous kevala nirvikalpa samadhi, and how at other times I could be in sahaja nirvikalpa samadhi." Sri Bhagavan replied, "You cannot do anything while you are asleep. At all other times you must assiduously practise the enquiry "Who am I?" The ripe fruit you want will reach your hands of its own accord." With this benedicition I got my final upadesa from the blessed lips of my beloved Lord and Master, Sadguru Ramana. I had nothing more to ask from him. I knew that I had to work hard to achieve my objective, and that nothing else remained for me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ N.R.
