Guest guest
Hi again Jody, I don't think we are that far apart in this discussion at all. I remember what Paramahansa Yogananda said: "You are the same as Christ. There is no difference in kind. There is only a difference in the degree." So there you are. The other day I noticed in my garden that an acorn had taken root and had sprouted two oak leaves. So tiny! And next to it stands the mighty oak, hundreds of years old, monumentum aere perennius, as the poet says. Well, that's how I am seeing this thing. Incidentally, according to usually well-informed sources, the little acorn with the tiny leaves recently told our cat how perfectly wonderful it was to be an oak; we understand the cat smiled a bit when it replied, yes, but don't let that keep you from growing! And I believe Ramana would have said no, you are exactly the same as Christ, in kind and degree. The only difference is that he has stepped out into the sunlight, and you are still under the shade of the tree. > So there you are. It's the very idea that we start small and get big that occludes in spiritual practice. There are good reasons people practice humility, as grandiosity lurks for those who come to believe in their understanding before understanding actually dawns. But this humility often becomes a fetter holding us to our idea of being smaller than our heroes, thereby keeping us from coming to the understanding our heroes are trying to show us. > Well, that's how I am seeing this thing.
