How can that be?Sri Ramana Maharshi: Sankara was criticised for his views on Maya without being understood. He said thatBrahman is real, The universe is unreal, and The universe is Brahman. He did not stop at the second, because the third explains the other two. It signifies that the universe is real if perceived as the Self, and unreal if perceived apart from the Self. Hence Maya and reality are one and the same.Be As You Are,David GodmanCommunity email addresses: Post message: RamanaMaharshi Subscribe: RamanaMaharshi- Un: RamanaMaharshi- List owner: RamanaMaharshi-owner Shortcut URL to this page: /community/RamanaMaharshi Your use of Groups is subject to the
Guest guest
There is no such thing as perceiving the universe apart from Self, as Self has no other. Maya is the notion that there could be perception of something else by someone else. That notion has no where else to arise, except Self, has no other substance other than Self, and has no meaning, no reference point, other than Self. There is, in fact, no Maya, because the notion of something apart, never has an existence apart. There is only Reality, could never be anything else anywhere. When people talk about Reality, it is necessarily conceptual, and so is communicated as if there could be some other perception, as if there could be ignorance of it, and so on. This is what happens in through the media of concepts, relationships, words, and human communication.
