The mood of Bhava

persists.

Om Namah Shivaya!

Creatures settle back in

ordinary bewilderment.

We share their amazement,

having nothing to do or say

about any of this, and

as it happens, so too

for the mosquito hawk

now wiggling up the wall,

blissful.

Even saying Shiva,

y'know?

……

"It is the hour of return."

Robert Bly must have been in the theatre

when all of you monks made the break.

"Last Tango in Paris" could be Sasaki Roshi.

"Now we sing, and do tiny little dances on the kitchen floor.

Our whole body is like a harbor at dawn;

we know that our master has left for the day."

Sohbet stole the show.

Conversation ceased everywhere, ahead of time.

And why would a man run into the night for a rooster?

"Call us to disappear into the wilds of the universe,

where we shall sit at the foot of a plant,

and live forever, like dust."

My brother used to have a pet rooster named "Festus."

I watched him cry his head off when it was killed by a bigger rooster.

I was peeking through a knot-hole in the tool shed.

"Like those before, we move to the death we love."

~Robert Bly
