Guest guest
A question was raised recently on the Advaitin list as to what is Self-Inquiry? That nature of the Self is Sat-Chit-Ananda. Existence-Consciousness-Bliss. It is One whole Only, but expressed through the mind by great sages in its three aspects. Its eternal fullness (Nityam, Poornum) is understood by only becoming That It Self and not otherwise. Self Inquiry is easiest to understand in the context of Sat. Sat means Existence. The question "Who am I?" is not meant to satisfy the intellect with answers but to focus the mind on Existence - its Source. When a person is ripe, the Self-Inquiry allows the focus on one's own existence. Thus the inquiry - "who am I that exists (and where do I exist)" appears attractive to a few ripe souls. Meditation on one's own existence bypassing all of one's bodies and forms may be said to be self-inquiry. Experience of Existence as Pure Existence and Being That, is the experience of Self. Here, the individual existence with limitations of personality is swallowed up by Pure Existence. That Pure Existence is Self and It is Self-Revealing as Self-Knowledge, Self-Bliss, Self Existence. The end of self-inquiry is the end of inquiry and the merging of the self in the Self. Past and future all disappear in the present now-ness.
