Guest guest
In order to know if this outrage was true, they visited his home. There Nasrudin sat, on his porch in his favorite Cobra-back rattan chair, eating a peach, and reading passages from the Koran to his large brown dog, who sat faithfully at his feet. "So it is true, what they say! Mullah Nasrudin is trying to teach his dog Islam!" one cried. "Blasphemy!" agreed an old Mullah with the longest beard, shaking with rage. "What useless thing is this?" demanded one of the younger Mullahs, a spry sixty year old. "Ah, am I not reading the Koran?" Nasrudin inquired. "Yes, but to a Dog!" one replied. "And does not Allah provide the same sun, the same day, the same rain to this humble creature?" Nasrudin asked. "Yes, but the holy words are meant for people, Nasrudin!" insisted one old Mullah. "Do we not read the words to the faithful?" he persisted. "Of course! But..." "And is not this poor creature not my most faithful one?" Nasrudin insisted. "He is certainly that...but he cannot understand the words!" The elder cried. "Ah, then why do you keep repeating the words to most of the fools of the village, if that is the reason?" "Even if they are foolish, they may learn something!" The elder scoffed. "Ah, indeed. Maybe this dog will learn something, also. Already he has learned to stay still and listen respectfully. He has learned to stay out of other people's business. He has learned that the true love of one person means everything in life. I think he is well on his way to replacing any one of you gentlemen."
