The soul must fashion a knee to bend

so that it is always quick to apologize to love.

It should be encouraged to weep as the willow

keeping its hair wet in the water of its own tears.

In this way it does not forget the Friends kindness

that beats it to hear the sound of an empty drum.

If your river babbles without the current of love

a herd of donkey’s will grow fat in your heart

and their piss will pollute your stream.

Without a knee to bend

It is as if you had a dragons head talking for you.

When you open your mouth to speak of love

bile fills your throat and the heart cannot breathe.

The scarab of your true nature cannot shine.

If you have a head like this, cut it off

for your best intentions will be turned to brimstone

in the eyes of someone else’s reality.

Never seek to be right without praying to be wrong first.

Each moment should be an apology to forgetfulness.

Humility is only noble when it is grateful

to be absent of any manners but Gods.

Your hands are always talking

trying to make a sign language others will understand

but first you must wash them of the conceit

of believing them to be your speaking.

True eloquence is a an open hand

where the fingerprints of absence are engraved.

Love is charitable when it surrenders its ownership,

and its right to be allotted only to the needy.

Only love understands where a desert needs to be a desert

and where a garden needs to be a garden.

If you have a need to be the judge of dispensation

then this, your own need, will strain your compassion.

Never let your left hand know what your right hand does,

and give without thought.

Practice kindness remembering nothing passes through you

that needs your contribution, just your allowing.

If the knees of your soul have become stiff with self regard.

Regard the way a knee is made to bend always forwards.

When your heart rejoices in being more wrong than right

an other path opens up before you

and you become the door you walk through.
