Guest guest
Wim, wonderful to learn about your being a Montessori teacher! I have the highest respect for that educational method and the people involved. Both of my children attended a local Montessori school and benefited so much from it. What serenity, respect and beauty were to be found in those classrooms.... The school in question had an elementary program which my older boy attended through fifth grade. What you said about your son and computers struck a chord with me. Your son sounds a bit like my 16 year old, Adam. But in Adam's case, a lack of intuitive understanding of social interactions resulted in angry frustration when he was a small boy. At age two and a half, he was diagnosed borderline autistic (PDD, Asperger's Syndrome). Adam has come a long, long way since then. He is very bright and is a mainstreamed student in a public high school, doing well. People who meet him sometimes note that he is a little socially immature, but they do not think, "neurologically impaired". Regarding an unrelated matter from another exchange of posts, you wrote: "Maybe those Dutch natives rolled their eyes because your father may have imbibed a bit too much of that good Dutch beer." Wim, thanks. You confirmed something I had suspected. My father frequently imbibed a bit too much of one thing or another. The interesting thing is that he would not have told that story on himself, had he been open to alternate interpretations of what was said...I believe that the clever Dutchmen actually succeeded in convincing him that they were commenting on his name rather than his behavior!!
