Guest guest
The gin is in fact a genever like drink. The genever was sometime in the 16'th century being used as payment ( the rum thing was out ). It became so widespread that the englishmen had to ban the use of genever. They made their own genever and it got the name gin, because it tasted awful, at least the first years. Many scandinavians like to drink a lot in the weekend, i used to like wine, but now only one glass every third month. It is a pity so many people think alcohol is needed to relax and laugh. Guest guest
Hi Al, You are not Danish are you? You must live close to the North Sea, that is what I gathered from one of your previous posts... > Many scandinavians like to drink a lot in the weekend, > i used to like wine, but now only one glass every third month. You must be counting the months :-))) Just kidding of course. Of course in the middle ages people had good reasons and excuses to drink fermented beverages as water itself was bad and did in fact kill. The monks worked real hard at inventing alcohol containing fruit juices and other distilled liquids... It killed the bad bugs... It was al part of alchemy. (Triple Trappist beer) That is why those drinks were call aqua vitae or aqua vite..."living" water or "water of life"... same as what Jesus did, but he was a better alchemist and way faster, he turned water into wine in a Jiffy... Problem is that Jiffy cups don't do that anymore. > It is a pity so many people think alcohol is needed to relax and laugh. Well it did not start out that way, but benefits can easily turn into detriments. Wim To your health and Gesundheit! (What would that be in your language ?)
