It is different from ego-consciousness or consciousness of the body. Consciousness can shine only in the egoless state, when the ego does not rise or subside. Merging into the source of ego, which is the fullness of consciousness, and abiding there is realisation. It is the natural state. Sleep and waking are states in which conscousness is limited by thought.
