8/4/02 "Preparing for the Birth - Part 2"

Yesterday we met again with our midwife. She started off by saying

that she had some bad news. Apparently, the day before, she had

received a phonecall from her assistant who told her that she would

not be able to attend the birth, and our midwife had had no luck in

finding anyone else to replace her.

Because we live so far away from a hospital and because our midwife

was still thinking that this baby might be born feet-first, she had

gotten quite anxious about it. While her family went out to the

movies that night, she had stayed home and lit some candles, taken a

long bath, meditated, and then drew a Tarot card for guidance.

As she described these events to us, we listened amusedly. To us, it

wasn't bad news that her assistant wasn't coming; to us, it was just

news. For us, living far from a hospital is just fine, and for us,

there is no anxiety about the position of the baby (who, by the way,

has been kicking me in the ribs for the past couple of days).

When she showed me the Tarot card she had drawn, do you know what it

looked like? It had an egg bursting wide open with a little baby

coming out, surrounded by huge flames of light.

Now I don't know anything about Tarot, but I immediately picked up the

card and started to inspect it very closely. Finally, someone asked,

"What? What do you see?"

I replied, "I am trying to make out if it's a boy or a girl."

:)
