8/24/02 "A New Day"

 

Dwelling in the embrace of timelessness between sleeping and waking, I

was only vaguely aware of the baby moving about inside of me. When I

heard and felt the rustle of the sheets I watched as Jim moved,

blinked and opened his eyes for the first time today. When he

glanced my way he smiled and silently reached for my shoulder. With

arms tenderly clasped, we closed our eyes and drifted again to that

semi-conscious sweetness until we became aware of Ananda stretching

long and sighing. Jim and I looked at each other again and then at

her and when she opened her sleepy eyes they were met with love. She

gazed at me and then at her dad and we were all very still. After a

while her face lit up and smiling big she said, "Today is the day I

am going to the river!" We said yes, she was right, and that is how

our day began.
