Dearest Mazie,

Sri Chitrabhanuji is with the Jain Center of NYC.

The website has one tiny photo, and one from his youth.

Perhaps Harsha might have a better one. It would be nice

to add a photo to Harsha's interview about his teacher.

Sri Chitrabhanuji and his biography, and even 3 short videos

another bio is here: http://www.jainworld.com/jainbooks/freedom/introduction.htm

Did you know he had to first renounce being a Jain monk to travel outside India

and bring his message here to the West?

Gurudev soon became one of the well-known spiritual leaders of the

Jains in India. Founders of the Temple of Understanding invited him

to address their First, Second, and Third Spiritual Summit

Conferences in Calcutta and Geneva and at the Harvard Divinity School

in 1968, 1970, and 1971, respectively. Gurudev's decision to attend in

person the last two conferences represented a daring step. It was the

first time in five thousand years of known Jain history that a Jain

monk had traveled out-side of India. The winds of change were

stirring within him. He rejected precedent, tradition, and public

opinion, and risked his position of great authority and respect in

order to bring the universal teaching of reverence for life to the

larger human family.

Dearest Gloriaji,i tried to find a photo of Sri Chitrabhanuji but

could not yet. Perhaps you might know where to locate one. Your

Kindness moves me to tears Dearest Gloji. Here is something cool -

Thanks for taking the time to give these links Gloria. As you know

Chitrabhanuji was the first Jain master to leave India in 5000 years

and brought the teaching of reverence for life to the west. I was

fortunate to come in contact with him in the late 1970s. The Jain

Paryushan (Festival of Forgiveness) is currently going on and about

to end and Chitrabhanuji is participating in it in Northern

California. More information about him is on the Jain Meditation

Center website.

Love to all

Harsha

All paths go

somewhere. No path goes nowhere. Paths, places, sights, perceptions,

and indeed all experiences arise from and exist in and subside back

into the Space of Awareness. Like waves rising are not different than

the ocean, all things arising from Awareness are of the nature of

Awareness. Awareness does not come and go but is always Present. It

is Home. Home is where the Heart Is. Jnanis know the Heart to be the

Finality of Eternal Being. A true devotee relishes in the Truth of

Self-Knowledge, spontaneously arising from within into It Self.
