9/25/02 "Night Sky"

 

Last evening I stepped outside for a minute carrying Zack. I am not

sure about what his new eyes can actually see, but I do believe that

the awesome vastness of the night did not escape him. I watched his

eyes widen as he simultaneously took in a big gasp of air.

 

Now Jim and I had tried, but we could not even come close to imitating

the sounds that came out of me during the dark morning hours of

Zachary's birth exactly three weeks ago. Last night, though, as Zack

and I gazed up at the stars together, for a moment I thought I could

hear them.
