Guest guest
10/1/02 "Autumn Wind" It was already dark and I was towel-drying my hair when Ananda burst into the bathroom full of excitement. "Mommy! You have to come see! Come outside with me! The wind is blowing and the trees are moving..." I dropped the towel on the hook on the way by as she was pulling on my hand and we were headed toward the door "...but you have to put on a sweatshirt or you will be cold..." It was so amazing outside. The crickets were loud and the air was cool, but not cold, and we could faintly smell the smoke from the woodstove. Ananda said, "Here it comes, Mommy, here it comes!" and the wind started to rise up, making that great wind-sound, and as it crescendoed all of the trees waved wildly to the sky. When we brought our attention to the maraca song of the stiff oak leaves shaking against each other she turned to look at me with her biggest smile-eyes and I met them with my own. Barefoot as usual, she ran and dragged the lawnchair over and then climbed onto my lap as I wrapped my arms around her. We sat like that, nice and cozy, for some time when suddenly she pointed and yelled, "Yook! Yook at the yeaf!" Watching it turn and flip as it tumbled I laughed as I said, "Yes! Fall is here!"
