Guest guest
11/03/02 "This, Too, Shall Pass" I was sitting on the bedroom floor with a small heap of newly-washed diapers beside me. As I folded and stacked them into piles I felt the familiar "stingle" (that's what I call it, anyway) which means that my milk is warm and ready for the baby. I was hoping he would wake up soon or else my shirt would be soaked...when suddenly I became aware of myself. Here I was, sitting among the diapers with the milk coming down and I knew with certainty that these times would soon pass. I knew that I would not be the mother of young children for long and my heart filled with gladness as I cherished that privileged spot on the floor with my task at hand and also the ache of my breasts, now full of milk. My reverie ended as abruptly as it started when I noticed the baby start to stir. With haste, I finished with the remaining diapers and put them away.
