Guest guest
11/04/02 "Given Birth" Today I got a surprise phonecall from a woman that I hadn't spoken to since our meeting at the sunset spot a couple of months ago.* She had been pregnant also, and as it turned out, delivered her baby boy two weeks after I did. She told me all about what a grueling, marathon labor it had been and I responded with all of the compassion of someone whose first birth experience had been an awful lot like hers. With great interest she asked me how this second one went. "It was..." I said quietly, "amazing." "Didn't it hurt??" she asked with great urgency. "Ooooh yeah," I answered, "but the thing was, it didn't matter!" As I described the labor and delivery to her the best I could, she wept. She admitted to me that, while she really wanted to have more children, she was afraid to experience another birth. Her husband tried to console her by saying that they could always wait until after she'd forgotten about the pain from this first one, and to this I chuckled, "I never forgot what it felt like." "Me neither!" she exclaimed, and we both agreed it was possible that this remembering may have helped me to be more prepared for the second round. I confirmed that this time, for sure, I had had no misconceptions about the power and intensity that seemed to be required in order to bring a baby out into the air! At this juncture she was reminded of something I had apparently told her at the sunset that evening, not long before the arrival of our babies. With joy, I had said, "I want to feel EVERYTHING," and she remembered this in the midst of her labor. "So...did you feel EVERYTHING?" she asked me eagerly. "Every nuance," I assured her. "But see, it all happened Through me... not To me." I think I got the goosebumps three times during that conversation. *see Adventure #40 (picture included: Kheyala and Baby Zack, just hours after delivery) Attachment: (image/jpeg) Birth Day.jpg [not stored]
