Guest guest
12/14/02 "Power Outage" Tonight our power went out. We decided to sit in front of the woodstove and tell stories for a while and because Ananda's are so frequently all about the same Ananda themes (crystals, rainbows, colorful jewels and sparkles), we thought it might be more interesting for her dad and me if we shared the story by each taking turns telling one line at a time. So here we had a man walking deep inside a cave and it was very, very dark and he got a little scared so he reached into his pocket, found his flashlight, turned it on and what did he see? "The biggest cwystal he ever saw in his yife!!" Jim and I laughed hard and loud but Ananda got mad and we had to stop. Then we took a drive around to see who had lights and who didn't. Most everybody didn't, but the little market at a neighboring spiritual community had its generator purring and we went in to pick up a couple cans of our favorite free-range chicken noodle soup. What a joke! We'd totally forgotten that everyone who lives there is a strict vegetarian. When we got back home, everything Ananda wanted to do required power. Even taking a bath needed the help of the water pump. She started to get quite frustrated until I said to her, "Look, honey, if you keep on wanting what you don't have, you will be unhappy. Why don't you try wanting what you do have?" She was quiet for some time after that. In fact we forgot about it. But then she came over to us saying, "I want to have a nice night and I want to have yuv." "All right!" we both sang out and we cuddled her like crazy on the couch. Then we got some snacks and munched and sat around the radio singing Christmas songs by candlelight. It was great.

Paths, places, sights, perceptions, and indeed all experiences arise from and exist in and subside back into the Space of Awareness. Like waves rising are not different than the ocean, all things arising from Awareness are of the nature of Awareness. Awareness does not come and go but is always Present. It is Home. Home is where the Heart Is. Jnanis know the Heart to be the Finality of Eternal Being. A true devotee relishes in the Truth of Self-Knowledge, spontaneously arising from within into It Self.
