Ahimsa for Children

The Door is already open...Lady Joyce walks into the Room, slowly.

Harsha and a few Hindu members of the Sangha are sitting together

chatting. As they realize she has entered, they all become Silent.

She stands before them now, her head down, her hands clasped

together...in prayer and in avoidance. She avoids looking up and is

praying for the strength to do it. She sort of shuffles her little

feet in nervous energy, left then right, then left then right, as she

wants to run away but she cannot move from where she stands. Bhagavan

comes to the rescue within her Heart and she looks up sadly. She

looks into their eyes, one person at a time. Finally, she begins to

speak in a quiet subdued voice.

"I am hurting right now because I realize that I have hurt you.

Sometimes I don’t think about what I say, as it affects others.

Just because I am not offended by what I say is not enough. Just

because I think it is funny, even in an innocent way, is not enough.

I have learned a difficult lesson in Ahimsa. At your expense. I

realize now that it goes way beyond a blithe incantation of the right

words. I must think of the effect of my words on others, even if I

think that there is no violation of Ahimsa, they might. I can’t

just say OM, Shaantih, I must Be OM Shaantih. I must strive to be

responsible in all my thoughts and actions. If I don’t take the

time to think, first...will I hurt anyone by what I say?...then I am

nothing short of irresponsible bordering on hypocritical. What is

Ahimsa? Ahimsa...nonviolence. In thought, action and words. Harsha,

I hope you won't mind if I read something you said about Ahimsa..."

‘We are reminded that in all the yogic traditions andscriptures,

above all other virtues, nonviolence isgiven the highest place.

Patanjali's yoga sutras, forexample, mentions Ahimsa above all others

yamas(restraints or rules of conduct).Sri Ramana often pointed out

that for a yogi, Ahimsa(the state of non harming) is always the

firstprinciple to abide by... Those who treat otherswith kindness,

respect, amity, and love, and givefreely of their gifts gradually

purify theirconsciousness and become free of hatred and enmity. They

are like deep valleys into whom the grace of theDivine pours

forth.’

Lady Joyce looks at the group and speaks again, from the Heart.

"I have failed to treat you with kindness, respect, amity, and love. I

have violated the yama of Ahimsa, by my thoughts, by my actions and by

my words. And by my failure to think...I promise you I will think much

more carefully about what I say the next time I address you. Please

know that I love All of you very much"

Hi Joyce,

Every thing is fine. All of us have done things that have offended

others in some way. There is no way around that as we all know...just

part of being human.

Seeing the subject heading "Sat-shit-banana" was irritating for me

and so I expressed it. It's not my purpose to stifle conversation in

any way. Communications over the internet can be misunderstood easily

so we need to use some common sense.

This is not a Hindu Sangha and has never been treated as such. It's a

Sangha open to everyone.

We are not Hindus, Christians, etc. We are just people.

God, that sounds like such a cliche! :-).

Anyway, give me a break guys!

Harsha

Dear Harsha and All:

Harshaji...you wrote> Every thing is fine.

:-) Everything was fine the moment I pressed the send button on my post

yesterday and went off to my walk...in devotion to All That Is, that is.

Once I said what I needed to say, I was repented and purged and I could go

out to play!!!

>All of us have done things that have offended others in some way.

Dear Harsha, I am so glad you did express it. I want All to know that I am

here to be corrected, redirected and whatever else it is that I cannot

remember at 1:44am as I write this, in this moment. I used to go to sleep

by 11pm every night...until I was Shakti-zapped into Kundalini Khaos!!!

Lady Joyce is all tucked in, content and full with freshly baked (mmmmmmmm)

chocolate chip cookies, her reward for good behavior!!! Mine, too!!!

Back to the home front...Please do understand this, All...If I am given the

honor of speaking to my country on the death penalty and to the world on the

need for love, I better do it with dignity. If I am to preach Ahimsa, I

better know how to practice it. If I am to preach understanding, I better

know how to respect the spirit of kindness, and good taste. There is no

question that I crossed the line. Yes, I am perfect. We are All perfect.

That does not give me the right to romp indiscriminately, without regard to

who I might hurt. May my actions be right.

Truthfully, I did wonder about it once there were a few posts under my now

infamous thread (Thanks alot, Shawn, for your words of inspiration!!! You

better live near the beach AND near a volcano so we can worship the Fire.)

At the same time, Sat-Chit-Ananda was also a thread on the Advaitin list.

There are a few people on the Sangha who also belong to Advaitin. I will

confess that I would never think of posting such an irreverent abomination

there! So, I felt a little guilty that I had posted it here, wondering

whether I had crossed the line. I was glad when Shawn changed it...big

improvement, Shawn. Oh, and I want a foot massage too, from you!!! And my

toenails polished with sparkles. I will bring the nail polish.

Row, row, row, your boat... :-)

The child is the father of the man... :-)

I think I can...I think I can... :-)

How about a big hug instead? I place myself into the loving hands of God,

All of You. Please Handle with Care...I am fragile, breakable merchandise.

But, I am also committed to my cause, my calling. And I need you. We Are

All Connected...In our everyday life, in our everyday strife...now all I

need is a wife...

Namaste,

Joyces galore
