Guest guest
SRI RAMAKRISHNA: I HAVE PRACTICED ALL KINDS OF SADHANAS Salutations to Thakur, Guru, and Ma! Gupta--"On December 16, 1883, the Master was describing Shiva's two states. He said, 'Shiva has two states. First, the state of samadhi when He is transfixed in the Great Yoga. He is then Atmarama, merged in the Self. Second, the state when He descends from samadhi and keeps a trace of I-ness. Then He dances chanting, 'Rama, Rama!' About his own sadhana, the Master said, 'I have practiced all kinds of sadhanas: Jnana yoga and Bhakti yoga, even Hatha yoga. I practiced sadhana prescribed in Tantra. I first practiced sadhana in the Panchavati. During my sadhana, when I meditated, I would actually see a person with a trident in hand. He would threaten to hit me if my mind strayed from God, warning me it would pierce my breast and kill me. I had all kinds of amazing visions. I distinctly perceived the communion of the Atman. A person exactly resembling me entered my body and began to commune with each one of the six lotuses. How many other visions I saw while meditating! Once I saw Sin in person before me tempting me in various ways when I was meditating under the bel tree..He wanted to give me wealth, honour, sex pleasure, various occult powers-- all this. I began to call out for the Divine Mother. The Mother appeared. I said to Her, 'Kill him, Mother!' I still remember Her form, that world-bewitching beauty.' On 27 December 1884, the Master was again talking of his past. He said, 'Oh, what states I have passed through! I passed so many days absorbed in Hara and Gauri---Shiva and Parvati, some days absorbed in Radha and Krishna, and some days absorbed in Sita and Rama. But Lila is not the last word. Passing through all these states, I said to the Divine Mother: 'Mother, in these states there is separation. Give me a state where there is no separation. That's why I was immersed for so many days in the Indivisible Satchitananda. I took a vow and would not leave the place. I said to the Divine Mother, 'O Mother, I am a fool. Please teach me what is contained in the Vedas, the Puranas, the Tantras, and the other scriptures.' The Mother said to me, 'The essence of Vedanta is that Brahman alone is real and the world illusory. The Satchitananda Brahman described in the Vedas is the Satchitananda Shiva of the Tantra, as also the Satchitananda Krishna of the Purana. The essence of the Gita is what you get by repeating the word Gita ten times, that is, in its reversed form 'tagi'-- renunciation" Satchitananda Kathy (Gupta, Dharm Pal. The holy Lotus-feet of Sri Sri Guru Deva be my refuge. We bow down with our head to Sri Ramakrishna, the adorable Supreme Lord, the God-incarnate, who although without the stain of imperfection, eternal and infinite, yet verily took the human form out of compassion for his devotees." >From SRI-RAMAKRISHNA-LILA-STOTRAM by Swami Abhedananda.
