I actually followed the discussion on this on another site you are on. I went through a period of using different mantras, but nowadays I stick with my Om Namah Sivaya. It is all in the heart anyway. The only time I use other mantras is at the occasional bhajan that I go to or in preparation of meditation. Specifically the 'Gayatri'. As my karma is much on the ahimsa path, I do tend to get involved in mundane matters as there are forces of light and darkness.
