Guest guest
Hi Harvey, The teaching of predestination is very ancient. Sri Ramana himself emphasized it at times to serious devotees and stated that things should be taken as they come to us and accepted in order to have peace of mind needed to dive into the Heart and realize one's Self-Nature. The logic behind the doctrine of predestination is both elegant and elementary. The fact that it is simple and easy to grasp is probably one of the reasons that Ramesh has latched on to it. My feeling is that whatever helps or seems to help is good. However, Self Knowledge has little to do with theories, intellect, and logic. Thanks for your comment. Will pass it on to HS and Advaitin. Like you, I would think both concepts have a limited application. You mention that these concepts can be used as tools. And then you say, if I have understood you, that once inquiry has revealed the nature of Consciousness, these concepts lose much of their relevance. You express reservations about Balsekar's teaching of predestination. I have noticed that despite billing himself as a close student of Ramana's, Balsekar doesn't seem to place much emphasis on inquiry. Perhaps we may take Balsekar's recommendation that we accept that everything which occurs is predestined to occur as his preferred tool, on an equal footing with inquiry, to help us discover the impersonal Consciousness which underlies our self-centered views of life.
