I will admit that when I do atma vichara I feel like it is Ramana in my heart instead of the guy I grew up being. I mean the boy who worked in the grocery store, drew pictures, and was shy around girls. There was always the inner person that never changed. Vichara centers me on that inner person that I imagine is Ramana. That is the centerpiece of my own attitude about pravilapa drishti, all that seems separate from me is myself. I think what you are saying is you don't want to act spontaneously in ways that get you into trouble and would vichara eliminate this. I don't know. There must be something about your impulsiveness that you like. Maybe you like to be angry. It is a pleasurable feeling. Not so much later when you have to extract yourself from the results. If you Forgive your transgressors you get a similar release. Love Bobby G.
Guest guest
Thanks for your comments Eric and questions and as you know TexasBob and John Logan and many knowledgeable people can answer you. I am on the Advaitin list and do post there. For those interested, you can join the Advaitin. It has a little different atmosphere than our list but very knowledgeable people on Sanskrit and scriptures. Someone just asked me a question there about my background and this is what I posted. No, I have not studied any scriptures formally and have no training in Sanskrit. I understand Hindi and Punjabi fairly well. I was fluent in reading Hindi until I was a teenager and have read various stories in Hindi including Ramayana, Mahabharta (Gita being part of that) and related areas. Most things I have read like Vivekachudamani and others texts have been in English. In fact, now if I wish to read something, it has to be an English translation as I cannot read Hindi like I used to. I am generally familiar with scriptures from English translations. Advaitin group has many knowledgeable people and scholars with deep insights. Being part of this group has made me appreciate even more how simple and beautiful the utterances and indications are in our Upanishads and so many other texts like Avadhuta Gita. So I feel fortunate to be part of this group. My own group is called . We have an electronic journal in which we put stories, essays, poetry, and art. The third volume is near completion but we are still accepting articles. /join I am a devotee of Sri Ramana Maharshi.
