Guest guest
[Dedicated to our sweet Dandelion] 5/16/03 "Bubble Sitting" Two autumns ago I picked up a young hippy off of the side of the road and brought him home with me. I'd said, "He's so cute, Jim! Can we keep him, can we keep him?" Dandelion (a name befitting for one with light blond dreadlocks) instantly became everybody's best friend and he ended up living with us and blessing us with his presence for the next several months. When Christmas season rolled around and I was wrapping gifts, Ananda had managed to snatch any and all bubblewrap that she could find. She had spread it out all over the floor in front of the woodstove, scattered some pillows, and that evening the whole family made themselves comfortable on it, including Dandelion and Bodhi (Zachary was only a few weeks in the womb at the time), eating cookies and ice cream in front of the fire. Then we plugged in on our year-round string of lights, opened up the windows, cranked up the karaoke, belted out Christmas carols at the top of our merry lungs to the townsfolk below us, and then we danced until we dropped. Ananda, who had just turned four, had called that fantastic event the night of the "Bubble Sitting Party," and every so often she would ask when we were going to have another one. I marked the calendar for the next year on that date and told her we would do it then. But alas, when the day came, Dandelion had long since moved back to L.A. to be with his aging grandma* and it just wouldn't have been the same without him, so we put off the Bubble Sitting Party for when he was back in town. We didn't see Dandelion again until just before the birth of Baby Zack. We had invited him up to witness the magic and to keep an eye on his best buddy Ananda, but as many of you might recall, that night I went into labor we never got around to calling him. (oops!) Well, he drove back to L.A. a little forlorn, but he forgave us and months later when he meandered back up north we found him stepping up to our front porch again and we are completely thrilled to say he's still with us. (Yay!) Last night Ananda laid out the bubbles, and all of us, including the baby this time, had a big, fun celebration. In between dance numbers we dashed outside into the cool, silent darkness to catch sight of the lunar eclipse (and we made a blessing for joyce, who we were certain was watching it from her home as well) and there was such Peace! and Joy! and GreatFullness! Gosh. Aren't the simplest things in life just the very best (and most fun) things of all?! *See Adventure #76 [picture attached: Dandelion (minus dreads) holding Zack] Attachment: (image/jpeg) 119-1969_IMG.JPG [not stored]
