Sri Muruganar first met Sri Ramana Maharshi in 1923.

On one of Sri Muruganar’s subsequent visits to

Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi,

Sri Bhagavan answered Sri Muruganar’s pleas for Grace

by directing His Divine Look at him.

Under Bhagavan’s penetrating Gaze,

Sri Muruganar lost his delusions and found himself

restored to his natural state of Self-awareness.

 

“He took me to the forest with him on the pretext of

plucking leaves to make leaf-plates.

There, with great delight, he destroyed my mind’s

restlessness by bestowing His Glance on me.

In the middle of the night he subdued my divided

individual consciousness,

granting me the experience of the undivided Reality.”

 

The following selection of verses,

written many years after the event,

all look back in awesome wonder

to this momentous experience of Grace.

 

They are some of the most beautiful, detailed and

Heart touching descriptions of the experience of

liberation ever written.

 

The experience was final and permanent for

Sri Muruganar. The ego and limited human

consciousness was gone forever,

and the Infinite-Bliss-Love-Awareness

remained forever.

 

8. "I have ended the confusion

 

of my bewildered suffering mind.

 

A lowly cur,

 

I have merged with the gracious feet of my Master.

 

In the surging brilliance of

 

his Divine Wisdom’s splendor

 

the broad ocean of deadly desires

 

has disappeared completely."
