Today I walked along a lake

when I came upon a ladder

on top of the mud.

between the reeds.

I found a long pole and climbed

this ladder to the end

reaching into the lake

and then I stood just there

during most of my three hour lunch break

until the dragonflies

thought I was a plant

and the osprey began to play in the sky above.
