Well Nina, looks like you had a good time with your family!

The nature of consciousness and its experiences in life and death fascinate all

wise people. The topic of death and its study is considered important in many

mystical traditions. I will pass this on to a as well.

My teacher's teacher's, teacher was well over a 100 years when he gathered his

students around him, went into Samadhi, and left the body. My teacher's teacher

used the the practice of gradual fasting which is another well known technique

in yoga.

According to the Yogic view, Death is only a temporary solution but still a

wonderful thing to meditate on. In fact, it can be the door way to prepare for

Self-Realization. In India, Sadhus and aspirants often meditate on cremation

grounds on the nature of death.

In the Mahabharata Epic, when Yudhishtra was tested for his wisdom, one of the

questions he had to answer was regarding the nature of death. Did you know what

he said? It is a simple yet beautiful answer that holds true even after 5000

years.

Also, are you familiar with the story in the upanishads where the young brahmin

boy Nachiketa visits Yama (the lord of death). Yogis make deep study of the

symbolism in that story. The notion of "Death" and its practical study is

considered one sure way to approach understanding the nature of consciousness.

Sri Ramana, as all know, entered the Self through his own "death experience".

So anything in life can be a teacher. Even Death!

Love to all

Harsha

"Love itself is the actual form of God."

Ramana Maharshi
