Guest guest
My girls were watching Zoom today and they were asking all these kids the famous question: Which came first- the chicken or the egg? I watched all these would be philosophers tell their answer and of course they were all right but ignored the opposite ( the egg cause the chicken comes from an egg) and so I was cracking up without puns. So I turned to Madison (now 4) and said, " so, what do *you* think?" She thought for a few seconds (which is the recommended time) and said, " I thi-i-i-i-nk there was a BIGGER chicken." This was beautiful, I thought. The beginning of the God concept- the Bigger Chicken. )))))))Shawn
Guest guest
You can't find an addequate philosophical answer to a riddle, this is why Christianity, rather than Buddhism, is the most accurate representation of truth. The philospher's soul is in his head, the poet's in his heart! Christianity is poetry and metaphor, Buddhism mere philosophy. When you think that they invented the koan, you see the irony. Oh, Motley! I cry for your dear soul! This opinion cannot be the result of thoughtful meditation or good Christian philosophy. Surely you realize (if you but study the texts) that Jesus based a large portion of his metaphors and teaching on Buddhist doctrines. If you cannot see this, then you have simply failed to read enough Buddhist scripture, particularly Zen Buddhism. You say that Buddhism errs as it is merely philosophy, which I take it means "the love of knowledge" from the Greek. This is true in part, but misses the more subtle and beautiful aspects of Buddhism that embraces all things, loves all life and is the very soul of respect and accepts profound mysteries as a daily part of the rituals and beliefs, just as Christianity does. There should never be a Christianity versus Buddhism argument, as these two profoundly lovely paths are not in conflict, and can be easily integrated into a consistent and beautiful religious approach that is inclusive rather than exclusive. I should further add that Taoism and many of the schools of both Hinduism (Vedanta in particular) and even Islam (which, should you read the Koran, you would find has surprisingly respectful and inclusive things to say about Christian theology) should be treated with the utmost dignity. Somewhere there is a place where people can find common ground to respect one another and embrace the real spirit of their respective religious paths...realizing that end the end, all of these paths must inevitably lead to the same ultimate and eternal conclusion. In the shadow of this radiant light, we are all humble, simple metaphors for a greater spiritual awareness... more perfect and loving beings that abide in grace and resonate with joy.
