Guest guest
11/18/03 I saw something very beautiful today and the image just won't let me go to sleep without having itself put down on paper first. When I went to Ananda's little school this afternoon to celebrate the event of her birth with her classmates, the teacher had each child hold a candle, make a wish for Ananda, and then blow it out. When it got to be Elijah's turn, he asked if he could whisper his wish to her, and on the teacher's okay, he leaned his extremely fair and blue-eyed face right up close. He began to give his message, but then he stopped. He reached some fingers out to brush aside the strands of long, soft-red hair that were covering Ananda's ear and he made to lean forward again, but when the hair moved itself back into place, I watched in awe at what happened next. It was almost in slow motion, how, with total tenderness and natural ease, this young boy of six gently tucked her hair behind her ear; how he put his pink mouth real close to the opening and whispered into it. Being so simple and sweet and even sensuous in its innocence, I was beside myself. In fact, little Zack, who had been seated on my lap, came very close to putting his finger into the flame of the boy's candle because I was so captivated by what was taking place that I didn't notice. I wonder if Ananda even heard a word Elijah said after being touched like that. She never mentioned it, but it sure did leave an impression on me.
