Guest guest
11/25/03 Ananda didn't want to go to school today. She seemed fine physically and emotionally, and when I asked her if it had anything to do with Rachel, her response convinced me clearly that it didn't. "Then why don't you want to go?" I inquired. Her response was, "I would just wather be here with my famiwy." It wasn't immediate, I must admit, but it didn't take too long for me to see that this was as good a reason as any, for her to stay home from school. Something that helped me come to this was when Jim came in and told me that Ananda had just said to him, "Daddy, I love Zacky so much, I can hawdly believe it" and that she had proceeded to take her baby brother by the hand, walk him into her room and close the door. Both of us pursed our lips raised our eyebrows to each other at that one. I mean, usually when she closes her door, poor Zack is left on the other side of it! After waving from the porch and watching Jim drive off to work in the pickup shrouded by a big puff of wintery exhaust in the frost-covered morning, I went to Ananda's room to take a peek at the children and I found the two of them sitting peacefully together on her top bunk watching a dinosaur video. They looked happy.
