Guest guest
12/07/03 We found out it was really good we kept Ananda home from school. It seems her little K through 2nd classmates had formed cliques. The boys were making a big deal out of sticks made into guns, and the girls were making a big deal out of Barbies and fashion. Isn't that wild? Even out here in the boonies, in a "spiritual" school in a "spiritual" community, kids will be kids. Ananda just wasn't fitting in to the social scene and because that was her main interest in school, it was no wonder why she didn't feel like attending. What happened was that we had gotten a concerned phonecall from her teacher. She wanted to know about Ananda's absence and had had five dreams about our family. Besides giving us the scoop on what was happening with the children, she told us that all the kids were asking about our little girl, even Rachel, who had been unkind to her. When we told Ananda about the phonecall, she lit up and said she wanted to go back to school. "My fwiends are missing me," she told us. When we took her in, she got a very warm welcome back by everyone. One child had even brought her a dinosaur. Driving home without her, I said to Jim, "We did the right thing, honey. Imagine if we had forced her to go to school. She might have tried to change herself in order to fit in better...out of survival!" He agreed, and in our thankfulness for the grace that made that decision for us, we also acknowledged how happy we were to have her back in class. We've decided to try sending her every other day.
