Dear Friends:

My father had made a great recovery and had overcome the effects of

stroke and the heart surgery. He had been moved to the rehabilitation

wing of the hospital and was undergoing physical therapy and was

walking and talking and was expected to be out of the hospital by

Christmas.

Yesterday my father had excruciating pain in the stomach. It was

discovered that the feeding tube that had been inserted in his

stomach had been leaking the contents out of the stomach around the

internal organs. Three liters of liquid was siphoned out from the

stomach area. My father now has a massive infection and his kidneys

are failing. He also had sudden drop in blood pressure which might

have caused another stroke. The doctors are not very hopeful.

My whole family is distraught at the sudden and unexpected turn of events.

This has been a difficult day for me and I have been going through

many desperate emotions and praying. I don't feel ready to lose my

father.

I ask for your prayers.

Thank you for all your friendship and warmth and love.

Love to all

Harsha

Dear Harsha:

I will keep you and your father and your family in my prayers.

I will especially remember him with the Mahaa Mrityunjaya Mantra,

in all of its aspects. I understand all too well that feeling of not being

ready to lose a parent. And I also know the anger you must feel

at the problem which seems to have caused his setback.

May God shower you with the strength you need for these moments.

Love,

Joyce

Dear Harsha,

What an awful turn of events, to have hope so quickly snatched away.

My prayers and love are with you, dear friend....

Love,

David

Thank you David. Thank you Yolanda, Joyce, Catherine, Ram and others for your

kindness and prayers.

I have now found out that my father had to have stomach surgery last night. The

doctors had to open the stomach in order to remove the liquids from the feeding

tube that had leaked into the wrong area and have caused a massive infection.

Because my father's blood pressure became very very low yesterday, his kidneys

appear to be damaged and not functioning. There is also the possibility that

another stroke may have occurred due to the low blood pressure. No one can tell

right now.

I spoke to a friend of my fathers, who has known him and the family for over 30

years. This friend of my father is also a physician who is a nephrologist

(specializes in the kidneys) and in charge of Dialysis at the hospital. He was

telling me earlier over the phone that more than likely he will start Dialysis

on my father tomorrow.

My father's friend, this same physician, was very sad and somber and told me

that due to my father's weakened condition, his body may not be able to fight

off the overwhelming infection despite the antibiotics.

I cannot be with my father physically right now but am holding him in the warmth

of my love in my heart.

I was reminded of Dylan Thomas's poem about his father where he tells his

father, "Rage, rage, against the dying of the light."

My father cannot rage, being sedated, incubated, and again on a ventilator. I

have raged for him the whole day, holding him in my heart, praying, weeping, and

shouting, "God bless you Father, God bless you" and in my mind have kissed him

from his feet to his head.

Dear Harsha,

I was a little behind in reading my e-mail messages, and I only just read

what happened to your father. This must be such a difficult time for

you. My heart goes out to you. You are in my thoughts and in my prayers.

Love,

Toine
