Love, Joyce - Alan Jacobs ramana maharshi Friday, January 16, 2004 1:18 AM [RamanaMaharshi] Jayanti Dear friends , I am passing on a Jayanti Reflection sent by Sri Ganesan . Regards to all , in His Boundless Grace,Alan Look at our Bhagavan. In the 20's, when disciples wanted to celebrate His birthday, He expressed His strong protest (as, He could not give a categorical 'Yes' or 'No' as answer, since He had avowed, on the very first day of His arrival itself, "Father! I have come at Thy bidding. Thy Will be done !") by writing two beautiful verses, for those who have 'eyes to see and those who have ears to listen'. "You who wish to celebrate a birthday, inquire first who was born. One's true birthday is when one enters into the Eternal Being which shines for ever, without birth and death. "Of all days, at least, on one's birthday one should mournone's fall (into samsara). To celebrate it as a festival is like adorning, decorating and glorifying a corpse. To seek one's Self and merge in it is Wisdom. "
