Guest guest
‘Regulation of diet, restricting it to sattvic food, taken in moderate quantities, is the best of all conduct and the most conducive to the development of sattvic (pure) qualities of mind. These in turn helpone in the practice of Self-enquiry’. Ramana, in Talks p.28 The recent discussion on sattvic diet on RamanaMaharshi group and the possible meaning of Bhagavan's words as quoted above prompted me to explore a little. This, combined with Harshaji's request that we post our favorite Bhagavan stories on HS, and a recent discussion on diet there as well... and Gabriele's photos of the cowshed at the ashram, naturally led me to stories of Maharshi and his love for animals :-) I have not eaten meat for over one year now. I did eat meat for this entire lifetime and enjoyed it as well. I was one of those who put my head in the sand... "Yech...I don't want to see the dead animal...I don't want to think about it, etc. Make that steak well done" Then I found myself slowly drawn toward the vegetarian path. I do not judge those of you who eat meat and hope you will view the links I provide below with that in mind. After all, who am I to judge, considering that I ate meat for 47 years? But, I provide the links for those of you who might be thinking about it and want to explore reasons to change your diet :-) One link is to the Bhagavan stories. The other link is to the page based on PETA links which I received in an email a few weeks ago on another list. For some reason I just did not have the heart to link the PETA pages and photos to the Bhagavan stories...so... http://www.omshaantih.com/Ramana/Animals.htm http://www.omshaantih.com/Ramana/Open%20Your%20Eyes.htm Love, Joyce
