Guest guest
Namaste, Here is my assessment of it. 1. It was an anti-violence movie similar to 'All Quiet on the Western Front,,,WWI. 2. It was reasonably accurate to the gospels and other traditions. 3. Mel mixed up the Pharisees with the Sadducean Temple Priests. The Sadducees who only believed in the Pentatech and regarded the books of the prophets in the Bible as heresy. They had been persecuting other Hebrews for this heresy for up to about 300 years. I notice one Jewish reviewer made the same assement, that Mel mixed his Pharisees with his Sadducees. 4. It made the Romans look really bad, but they probably were pretty bad crucifying thousands of people etc. 5. Pilate was made to look weak, and his wife was seen to be rather pro-Jesus. As it is said that Jesus cured her son of epilepsy, that is no wonder. Also she may have known Ruths husband who was a high official in Palestine but was in Rome at this time. Ruth was Jesus' youngers sister. I wish the Christians and Jews would get their pharisees and sadducees right as well. Jesus came from an Essenic tradition, associated with Mt Carmel and Qumran etc. It was a graphic but pretty good movie. The most moving part was watching Mary suffer.............Om Namah Sivaya...Tony
