Guest guest
Question - If God is the cause of everything, isn't He also the cause of the numerous illnesses we see today? Even children are free from illness. What mistakes did they commit? Amma- God is the cause of everything, He has also told us how to lead our lives. He speaks to us through the Mahatmas. What is the use of blaming God for the hardships we experience when we do not obey His teachings? A health tonic helps you to get better, but if you drink the whole bottle in one gulp, without listening to the doctor's instructions on how it should be taken, whatever health you still have could be ruined. And if you don't tune a radio properly, it will only cause a disturbance. When you tune it in the right way, the music will give you a sense of pleasure and satisfaction. Similarly, people suffer because they fail to grasp the most important points in life. It is by grasping the key points in life that we can find happiness, and those principles can be learned through satsang. Listening to spiritual discourses can help us remove many problems. But if you live close to a Spiritual Master who abides in the Ultimate Truth, and follow his or her instructions, your life will be ever joyful; you will never have to fall into danger. The life of those who neither learn about the true principles of life through books or spiritual discourses, nor experience the presence of a Spiritual Master, will surely take a downward turn. Many of the illnesses we see today are the result of the selfish actions of humanity. We eat food that is toxic and adulterated. The pesticides and fertilizers used to cultivate grains and vegetables are toxic enough to kill people if they inhale them. We eat crops produced in this way and adulterated for excessive profit. How can our health not be affected? The use of alcohol and drugs is also the cause of many illnesses. But people aren't even given pure medicines to treat those illnesses, for the medicines are also adulterated. Thus, the inhuman behaviour of humans is the reason why illnesses are multiplying to such an extent at present. We cannot blame God for this. God doesn't make anyone sick. Nor does God make anyone suffer. There are no imperfections in God's creation. Humans are the ones who distort everything. We should live according to God's will, in harmony with Nature. Then most of today's illnesses can be eliminated. The children are born from the seeds of parents who live on poisonous food. How, then, can they be healthy? Even cow's milk contains toxic substances nowadays. Cows eat grass and other types of fodder that have been sprayed with pesticides. The children of alcoholics and drug addicts won't be healthy. They may also have deformities because the semen of their fathers may not have had the factors needed to engender a healthy body. The children of those who take an excessive amount of allopathic drugs are also prone to illnesses. It is because of the negative actions those souls have committed in their previous lives that they have had to be reborn as children of such parents. Thus, they have to suffer the consequences of the negative actions of their parents as well. Our happiness and sorrow all depend on our actions. The root cause of everything lies in karma. If we perform our actions with great care and alertness, we won't have to experience suffering. We will be able to enjoy happiness always. People cause their own difficulties. They experience the fruits not of mistakes they haven't committed, but of those they have committed. Today, people do not live as part of God's creation; they live in their own creation and experience the results thereof. So we cannot blame God and say it is His fault. As long as we follow God's path we won't have to be sorry; we won't even know what suffering is. __________ Around Amma Talassery A Night of Laughter Bharata Yatra 2004 Friday, 13 February 2004 - Talassery
