Dear Lady Joyce

I enjoy your postings very much, they are very sweet.

But something in this one is puzzling.

Are you looking for me?

Are you looking for me? I am in the next seat.My shoulder is against

yours. You will not find me in the stupas, not in Indian shrine rooms,

nor in synagogues, nor in cathedrals: not in masses, nor kirtans, not

in legs winding around your own neck, nor in eating nothing but

vegetables. When you really look for me, you will see me instantly

--you will find me in the tiniest house of time.Kabir says: Student,

tell me, what is God?He is the breath inside the breath.

What do you think he means when he writes, "Not in legs winding around

your own neck"

Love

Hi Warwick. I think Vicki is correct in what she says.

In fact, there is another translation of the poem which says just that.

I like the Bly one better, probably because I heard it first, on a CD which I have.

Something about it just feels better to me...yet the other one I quote

below may be more "authoritative."

Although I like the last line in it, I am used to the breath inside the breath

as the final resting place:-) For me, the very breath we take is a matter of grace,

and so, too, faith can be found there.

TranslationWhere do you search me?I am with youNot in pilgrimage, nor

in iconsNeither in solitudesNot in temples, nor in mosquesNeither in

Kaba nor in KailashI am with you o manI am with youNot in prayers,

nor in meditationNeither in fastingNot in yogic exercisesNeither in

renunciationNeither in the vital force nor in the body Not even in

the ethereal space Neither in the womb of Nature Not in the breath of

the breathSeek earnestly and discoverIn but a moment of searchSays

Kabir, Listen with careWhere your faith is, I am there.
