Guest guest
Back in India, I once heard a story. A very old story. One of a devil, o a demon. With every drop of the blood that comes out that devil and falls on the ground; ....a new devil will be born. One that is stronger than the devil. Kill it and it will multiply, ...with every blood drop. Another name for that devil is ...the mind. It is the cat, that you trying to kill. It is your cat, that always escapes; ...in spite of your best tries. So, don't kill the cat. Just watch it, ...and let die. Don't feed it honey, don't feed it milk, don't touch it furs and don't pat its back. But, don't fight with it. Don't try to kill it. Because, with the every drop of its blood, a new cat will be born, ...one, stronger than before, mightier than before. And, killing the cat is foolish because, it will leave on its own. It is your cat and it only survives by your attention. Just watch it and ...let it die. Don't pay attention and it will die. And, it is good cat. It is a trained cat. It will jump up and down. It will do some gymnastics. But, it will leave ultimately, ...if you don't pay any attention. Because, it leaves by your attention. Your attention is its milk, it is its puree, it is its honey, it is its food. And, even fighting with it is paying attention. Even trying to kill is paying attention. And, the cat loves it. Ever cat loves it. It is its play. It is its game. Now, it has got its attention. Now, it has won. It is here to stay. You chase it in one direction and it will run into five others and now you have so many cats to chase after. So, just watch it and ...let it die. And, maybe, it is an old cat. Maybe, it is already almost blood. Now don't spread its blood and don't give its life again. Because, with the every drop of the blood of this cat, a new stronger cat will be born. And, whatever you try to kill, never leaves. It comes back with greater force, with greater vigor, with greater determination and with better tricks. It goes away just for some preparation, ....only to get stronger. And, then it is back again, ...from the back door. You chase it away from the front and it comes back from the back door. You watch the front door vigilantly and it sneaks up from the back, from behind. Whatever you fight, never leaves you. It just waits for the next opportunity. The moment fall asleep, the moment you get little tired, the moment you need some rest and it searches for some other door. The door, that you are not watching. That's why suppression never works. Whatever you try to suppress only gets stronger and strikes back from back, from behind. .....and, Buddha teaches watchfulness, alertness, dispassion, non- attachment and non-violence. Watch it and ...it will die. Be dispassionate, non-attached and ...it will die. Because, no cat can tolerate dispassion, no-attachment, indifference. Cats survive by your attachment – negative or positive, affection or fight. Watch it and ...it will die. Watch it and ...it will die.
