Guest guest
WOW!!! what a 'sea' of Humanity ... i have never seen that many people congregated in one place , not in USA anyway ... IN a place like india , you can see that many people almost every other day in many of those protest rallys ... i had to come back because of a 'bad' back... but i did hear all the speakers Loud and Clear .. on TV Whoopi Goldberg , Ashley Judd, Madelene Albrecht, Gloria Steinham and many more women speakers drwan from all over the country came on the podium expressing their concerns for Women's rights specially the right to choose -PRO CHOIE but more importantly, they were saying BUSH! keep off our bodies ! keep your rosaries out of our ovaries! War on Iraq ? moe like war in WOMEN right her at home! Get out of our bedrrooms and doctors offices! wmds - no! not weapons of mass destruction! more like weapons of motherly destruction! One thing i will tell you women are always better speakers than men!! For they know how to convey messages powerfully using BODY LANGUAGE !!! and they are better actors anyway ... in any case, pro choice is more a woman's issue ... i would say a 'human' rights issue ... 1600 PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE NEVER LOOKED SO GOOD - colorful and picturesque ... 57 countries were represented and marchers came from all the way from california to new york!!! personally, i think these marchers were sending a powerful message to Bush ... 'don't count on women's votes... WE r going to make sure you are out of office and out of luck this time." Woman power !!! THIS IS IT FOLKS ! nothing like a woman scorneD ... NOTHING LIKE A WOMAN DENIED HER RIGHT TO CHOOSE ...
Guest guest
Hullo Adi --sorry about your back. If you don't mind my saying so, you seem to be implying that the non-dual spiritual approach is a subsection of the Democratic party. I would have thought that, at least in a chatroom devoted to spiritual exploration, we are above party politics? I loved your line keep your rosaries out of our ovaries. But Mr Bush is not a catholic, is he? Much love Warwick - adi_shakthi16 Monday, April 26, 2004 8:35 AM KEEP YOUR ROSARIES OUT OF .OUR OVARIES,,,,, WOW!!! what a 'sea' of Humanity ... they were saying BUSH! keep off our bodies ! keep your rosaries out of our ovaries! Guest guest
war-wick , YES , back hurts .. but i am used to these bodily afflictions knew you would ask me that question benji! Personally , i would not recommend 'abortion ' ... To kill an unboen fetus is a 'jiva' hatya ( murder of a jiva) but let us consider all the circumstances .. 1) in u.s.a. ... there is an unlimited amount of sexual freedom ... ,and this begins at an early age... teenage pregnancies are on the rise .... if a teenager gets pregnant by accident ( does not use contraceptive or it did not work) and she does not want to go thru her pregnancy either because she herself is a child or she is too poor to afford the whole thing and the boy friend runs away from the whole scenario, what is she to do ? She must have a right to choose ... she should not go to some illegal abortion clinic and put her and her unborn fetus's life in danger .. 2) another case scenario- if a woman is a victim of *rape* or *incest* and does not want to go through the pregnancy, she must have a right to choose ... 3) another case scenario - a 45 year old woman gets pregnant and finds out that the unborn baby is not developing properly and has all kinds of medical problems , then she has a right to choose ... these are just few extreme examples ... the point is we cannot ask people specially in american society for girls and boys not to indulge in pre marital sex... and 'abstinence' is not the answer ! that ain't going to happen!! instead, we should advocate safe family planning methods ... but on the ultimate analysis , it is a matter of individual choice ... EVEN IN INDIA, values are changing ... of course, there is 'social' ostracism if such unwanted pregbancies parents are 'over protectibve of girls and girls are not allowed to date freely and indulge in pre marital sex ... but in urban areas, the sitaution is slowly changing ... abortion clinics are there in every corner of a big city and in some areas of rural punjab, women abort their female fetuses if they discover the sex of an unborn child via ultrasound ... I am a Gandhian and i personally would not recommend it ,,, but then each case is unique and it is for the iindividual to make that choice ... but , the post i wrote doe not reflect my thoughts ... those are just reflections ... of what happended in the march ... believe me , in india female genocide is on the rise in recent times ... just some random ruminations ********************************************************************** warwick, i am what i am but by the same token i do not deny people their tight to choose ... whatever they want to choose ' that is my 'liberal' side
