Guest guest
Wasn't it "Blessed are the poor in spirit?" Sam - Tony OClery Monday, July 12, 2004 5:20 PM Sayings of Jesus-#54---Gospel of Thomas. I think the poor in spirit is from another gospel Matthew 5. It seems sometimes the less is said the earlier it is. There is a lot of rewriting and interpolations in the gospels, and Mark may be the earlier of the synoptics on that basis. The Nag Hammadi Texts seem to be prior to any Roman influence or censorship, and particularly the Gospel of Thomas which in my opinion is the closest to the Q gospel. The poor in spirit is insinuated in Thomas, for the receivers probably understood the meaning. In mathew they have combined the saying with the purport somewhat...........ONS..Tony.
