Guest guest
Some information about the picture from this evenings sunset at Runde: On the shore just next to the sunshine is the remains of the old lighthouse where the ship Akerendam sank in 1725. The small spot above the remains of the lighthouse is the rcok the ship hit. Nobody lived here then, at least not on this side of the island. My grandfather came from this island and when he was a child they found a few coins on the shore so there was a rumour of a treasue, but nobody knew exactly where it was. It is still possible to dive and find gold and silver coins, but it is forbidden to take them out of the water ( Still I have seen some : ). In the water next to the lighthouse, there are 14 canons from the ship. On this small island famous for its puffins, about 175 000 pairs of birds breed on an area of cliffs about 2 km long and 150 to 300m high. Most of them have left for the summer. http://www.vocshipwrecks.nl/out_voyages7/akerendam.html Alan
