Jesus suggests that the "rich" should be King, because they can provide their wealth to the people, a poor man or average man would use power to gain wealth from his subjects, not vice-versa. Renouncing power is essential, because a wise leader learns that only vast power is truly dangerous, and destructive. THis is surely not a call to "surrender" but one that teaches us to all use power and powerful things only sparingly or when absolutely necessary. A King should rule by example, not by force. Once a King is forced to use his power, he becomes in fact powerless in the end. There is an old political discussion that goes like this: A king and his wisest advisor ate discussing the discontent of the subjects. The King asks, "Should I not, as King, warn the troublemakers to cease, or else they will suffer the consequences?" The advisor replies, "Yes, absolutely, you should never let them think that you would not use force with them. Of course, it is never wise to bluff and have that bluff called." The king is confused and asks, "But, what do you mean...I do not mean to bluff!" "True, your highness, but if you make a threat, then you must carry out the threat...are you prepared to do that? What if there are important royal family members in this group? Their children? Would you just execute them all?" "No, of course not, I would reason with them" "Exactly, so perhaps you do not really wish to bluff, because you would be forced to act, and if you act, and that fails to put down the unruly, then you would no longer be king, would you?" So, wise rulers must learn to use reason, if only to prevent their actual limitations of real power from being revealed. The perception of absolute power is more powerful than actually any power a ruler might have. Real power resides in wisdom, compassion and restraint, not in brutality, immaturity or threats. Guest guest
Does anyone know this story? When someone touched the garment of Jesus (unknown to Jesus) that person was healed. Jesus is supposed to have said," Did someone touch me...I felt the power go out" Mace Mealer wrote: > Real power > resides in wisdom, compassion and restraint, not in brutality, immaturity or > threats. > > Namaste... > > Zenbob > > > >
Guest guest
Mark Chapter 5: 25 There was a woman afflicted with hemorrhages for twelve years. 26 She had suffered greatly at the hands of many doctors and had spent all that she had. Yet she was not helped but only grew worse. 27 She had heard about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak. 28 She said, "If I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured." 29 Immediately her flow of blood dried up. She felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction. 30 Jesus, aware at once that power had gone out from him, turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who has touched my clothes?" 31 But his disciples said to him, "You see how the crowd is pressing upon you, and yet you ask, 'Who touched me?'" 32 And he looked around to see who had done it. 33 The woman, realizing what had happened to her, approached in fear and trembling. She fell down before Jesus and told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be cured of your affliction."
